CBS reported that a new study connects with cancer sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea have interrupted breathing during sleep periods. The study shows that disturbed respiration can spread cancer. I have sleep apnea and use a machine of spontaneous breathing.
A study in mice shows that cancerous tumours grow faster in those with sleep apnea. The sleep apnea has been linked to heart problems, also. When the breathing stops, it can damage the heart. Heart rate and breathing slowly during the night, but in people with sleep apnea, also known as Obstructive sleep apnea or OSA, breathing stops completely.
The sleep apnea is characterized by the deep, heavy snoring. The rest is pock-marked with stop-start episodes in which they partially wake blows to catch his breath. The severity of the sleep apnea is measured by the number of separations of respiration, called "apnea". Breathing is restarted with an involuntary intake of breath. Babies and children with infant sleep apnea always restart their own breathing. The infant sleep apnea is particularly dangerous.
To get adequate rest, a person must move through the full cycle of sleep. In the first stage, sleep is the light and the sleeper is easily awake. In step 2, sleep becomes more deep and slow brain waves. Three stage is characterized by sleep deep and slow brain waves of delta.
The last step is REM (rapid eye movement). Sleepdex describes REM in this way: "breathing becomes more rapid, irregular and little deep, eyes quickly jerk and limb muscles are temporarily paralyzed. Brain waves this stage increase to levels experienced when a person is awake. Also, increased heart rate, blood pressure increases... "It is at a time when most dreams occur and, if awake during REM sleep, a person may remember dreams."
Normal adults spend 50 percent of sleep in scene two, 20 percent in REM and 30% in other cycles. Because people with sleep apnea are constantly restarting their breathing patterns, their sleep cycles are disturbed.
I was diagnosed with apnea sleep in 2009. My sleep studies revealed that I spent only five percent of my sleep in the sleep of step 2 or 3 deep. For each hour of sleep, I was getting only about five to ten minutes of actual rest. I buzzer and experienced constant intense dreams. I had a lot of apnea every night and often woke up feeling that I strangle me.
I started with a machine of spontaneous breathing (continuous Positive airway pressure). Since I have questions to allergy and sinus I breathe through my nose. My CPAP mask covers my mouth and nose. I also have a deviated septum which causes respiratory problems. In 2010, I had a septoplasty with turbinate reduction surgery to correct deviated septum.
Before surgery and using CPAP, I would fall asleep at the wheel, speak and interact with people. I could be in bed for 11 hours and always be exhausted. I couldn't do more than four hours without falling asleep. I have had frequent back pain, headaches and muscle problems. I was in constant pain. I took Paxil for depression.
Between the CPAP and septoplasty, I am now much better sleep. I wake up refreshed and not fall asleep all the time. I am less pain. I have stopped since taking Paxil and is no longer the depression experience. People told me that they hate their CPAP. I could not sleep without mine. If the sleep apnea cancer spreads and causes heart problems, it may have saved my life.
