House Republicans back on Medicare review

WASHINGTON  - Republican Congress sustained Thursday far a contentious plan to overhaul Medicare that the President Barack Obama and fellow Democrats have transformed into a weapon against them for the next year's elections.

House of representatives of the Chairman of the Committee of ways David Camp said that his Panel will not advance a Republican proposal to privatize Medicare for future retirees because there is no chance of getting adopted by the Senate Democrats. But the Camp, said that the powerful tax writing Committee will act on any compromise on deficit reduction plan.

"I am interested in the search for a way forward which will get passed," Camp said to journalists at an event sponsored by Health Affairs, a journal of health policy.

Camp of spoke as Vice President Joe Biden began bipartisan talks White House to reduce the deficit of $ 1.4 billion.

Author of the sickness insurance scheme, Chairman of the Budget Committee House Paul Ryan, said Republicans hoped thus achieving some budgetary expenditures in the negotiations, but predicted that radical changes to the health program popular would not stake after 2012.

"We are not under any illusion that we are going to get any grand slam agreement", said Ryan.

Obama called the "radical" Ryan health insurance proposal, saying: it tries to resolve the deficit on the back of the poor.

Republicans, who control the House, met the wrath of voters on the proposal, which would be progressively traditional managed by the Government Medicare and replace it for future retirees with subsidies for the purchase of private insurers health policies.

FACING THE REALITY OF POLICY

Camp and Ryan comments suggest a new pragmatic tone by the Republicans in the budget negotiations taking place as Congress clashes within August 2 to lift the ceiling of 14.3 billion U.S. debt or risk by default on its obligationsa result that could devastate world financial markets.

They also face the political reality that the sickness insurance scheme shall not pass the Senate, and he became a powerful weapon on the political plan for Democrats for 2012 presidential and legislative election campaigns.

50 Senate Democrats in a letter to House Republican Leader Eric Cantor Thursday voice strong opposition to the Republican regime Medicare.

Ryan said in a speech to the American Council for the training of Capital than the Democrats and the Republicans were too far on the way to slow the growth of Medicare and other health programs managed by the Government to agree before 2012.

"I believe that 2012 will be the ultimate deciding these things", he said.

Democrats started ads against some Republicans who backed the Republican budget House project, which included the health insurance scheme. They contrast Republican opposition to higher taxes oil companies with a desire to overhaul Medicare.

"GOP is now for"Gas and oil party"and"Get old"simultaneously,"said House democratic representative Ed Markey, referring to the nickname of the Republican party."."

While a sweeping Medicare overhaul was cancelled, Camp said it remains on the table. A rapid rise in spending for the United States health programs threaten to wipe out the budget.

"I will not do anything off the coast of the table," said Camp. He said that Democrats need to come forward with some ideas.

The debt limit has been considered a Republican lever to exert pressure on Obama and democratic legislators in accepting to deep cuts in federal spending.

Tea Party conservatives insist on spending even tough controls with no rapid agreement on health insurance and other social programs.

"There needs to be some rows this kick, as well as... you have automated budget expenditures" when expenditures reached a certain level, representing Republican Allen West, a member of the Tea House Party Caucus, told Reuters.
